The rule
Every OVNS lid is printed with four dots. Some of them are dark and some are faded. Only the dark dots count, and each dark dot adds 3 mg above a 9 mg baseline.
Why the dots exist at all
The lid artwork is the same across strengths within a flavour, which keeps printing simple and keeps the shelf looking consistent. The dots are the quick visual marker that tells you which strength you are holding without turning the can over.
The mistake people make
The most common error is counting all four dots regardless of shade, which makes every can look like 21 mg. The faded dots are not strength markers — they are placeholders that keep the four-dot layout consistent across the range. Look at the shade, not the count.
The second most common error is counting up from 6 mg instead of 9 mg. The baseline is 9 mg. Two dark dots is 15 mg, not 12 mg.
For shopkeepers and distributors: if a customer asks what strength a can is and there are no dark dots on the lid, turn the can over. 6 mg and 9 mg are printed on the back.
Quick reference
- ○○○○ — no dark dots → check the back of the can: 6 mg or 9 mg
- ●●○○ — two dark dots → 15 mg
- ●●●● — four dark dots → 21 mg
Every OVNS flavour is made in all four strengths, and every can holds twenty pouches. See the strength guide or the full flavour range.
Important
Nicotine is an addictive chemical. OVNS pouches are tobacco-free and intended for adults 21 and over who already use nicotine.
